Michigan: Biomass energy plant hosts public tour

MISSAUKEE CO. — Viking Energy hosted a tour of their facility for the second annual National Biomass Energy Day.

Biomass energy uses wood to produce electricity. Viking Energy wanted to showcase how this process works to the public and so they can see what the benefits of this type of energy is.

“We are not new and sexy like the technology of wind and solar, but we are a local source,” Gary Melow, Michigan Biomass Director, said. “We are important to local economy, to forest resources, and we are important to the state’s energy portfolio.”

Watertown Daily Times (NY): Students sit in the driver’s seat of logging equipment

GLENFIELD — Seniors studying forestry and environmental conservation and students from the gas and diesel class at Jefferson-Lewis BOCES Howard G. Sackett Technical Center got the chance to experience sitting in the driver’s seat of cutting-edge logging equipment — all through the magic of computers.

Kimberly Brown, forestry and environmental conservation instructor, said she has been working to get simulators in the classroom for more than a year. Working with Sarah M. Boggess, director of communications and governmental affairs for ReEnergy Holdings LLC, and John R. Howe, ReEnergy’s north country wood procurement manager, the school finally got the simulators into the classroom.

Montana DEQ Observes National Bioenergy Day, October 22, 2014

Helena — The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is marking the second annual National Bioenergy Day on October 22 by highlighting successful projects accomplished in the state over recent years.

Bioenergy is a form of renewable energy derived from organic plant materials that have stored sunlight. Bioenergy in western Montana largely entails use of forestry byproducts to generate heat and energy. For example, a growing number of schools, even hospitals and office buildings use wood byproducts for space and water heating, including at the University of Montana-Western in Dillon and the Clark Fork Valley Hospital in Plains.

Biodiesels Magazine: 2 South Carolina firms to celebrate Nat’l Bioenergy Day via new collaboration

ATP-SC LLC and Midlands Biofuels jointly announced an innovative collaboration to grow biocrops, produce, sell and utilize solid and liquid biofuels, and to expand the state’s bioeconomy, starting in Allendale, S.C., and expanding across the state.

This announcement is made in anticipation of National Bioenergy Day, which provides an opportunity to showcase bioenergy facilities and the bioenergy supply chain around the U.S. The U.S. Department of Energy will celebrate National Bioenergy Day with an educational display about the bioenergy supply chain and the bioeconomy in the lobby of the energy department’s Forrestal building in downtown Washington, D.C.

Tennessee: Genera Energy’s VP of Business Development to Present at National Bioenergy Day Event

Oct. 17, 2014 — Sam Jackson, vice president of business development at Genera Energy Inc., a recognized leader in biomass feedstock supply innovation and supply chain advancements, will attend and present at the National Bioenergy Day event at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky next  Wednesday, October 22.
