The City is marking Bioenergy Day with an open house on October 24 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the distribution centre of its Downtown Renewable Energy System at 215 George Street (located at 2nd and George). The open house will be hosted by Supervisor of Wastewater and District Energy, Steven Mercedes (pictured above in the distribution centre).
By displacing consumption of natural gas for heating, the Downtown Renewable Energy System has reduced the City’s annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2200 tonnes annually. The system has also decreased the particulate matter released into the airshed through its connection with Lakeland Sawmills and the decrease of natural gas usage.
The open house will be at 215 George Street (located at 2nd and George) and open house attendees are requested to use the entrance on 2nd Avenue.
The 2018 Bioenergy Day is the sixth annual and features events throughout North America.
